MLT Foundation Grant FAQs

What does the MLT Foundation use as criteria for issuing a Grant?

The main criteria for the acceptance of a Grant Request from the MLT Foundation is that the organization be a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on the establishment of infrastructure for enabling homeless individuals (and families) to enable them to rise from their situation

Does the organization requesting a Grant have to be a non-profit?

Yes – any Grant given by the MLT Foundation will require a 501(c)3 Tax ID issued from the IRS.

What does the MLT Consider Infrastructure?

The MLT Foundation tries to focus on items that enable enduring systems to aid in the fight against homelessness. Infrastructure items include activates that support housing, education, medical services (including both physical and mental) and hygiene as examples.

Does the MLT Foundation have other criteria in deciding Grant Approval?

The MLT Foundation prefers to support smaller and innovative non-profits that do not have a high percentage of administrative or overhead costs. The MLT Board will review public tax documents and records to determine whether the organization fits the model we would like to support.

What else does the MLT Foundation require for a Grant?

The MLT Foundation will request a project description and specific measurable items that the Grant will be used to deliver to the homeless community. The MLT Board will request tangible items that can be verified as purchased or put in place with the Grant funds. The MLT Foundation will not allocate Grants without a specific deliverable that can be identified as funded by the Grant.

What is the Process the MLT Foundation uses to review and issue Grants?

1.      The Grant Request should be submitted via the MLT website (www.mlt-cares.com).

2. The Grant request is reviewed by the MLT Foundation Board for initial acceptance.

3.      The MLT Foundation Board member will research the requesting organizations records to ensure the company meets the Foundations goals.

4.      The Board will then have a member contact the requesting organization’s contact with any initial questions and clarifications.

5.      In most cases the MLT Board member will request an on-site or phone visit to discuss the Grant Request and project to be supported.

6.      The MLT Board will then meet to disposition the Grant Request and contact the requesting organization with the decision. If denied, the Board will explain why this decision was reached.

7.      After approval the Grant check will be issued to the Requestor.

8.      The MLT Foundation will follow up during and after the project being funded is being worked on to verify the funds were used as intended.

Are the Grants from the MLT Foundation Taxable?

No – the MLT Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established to support the fight against homelessness and offer tax-free grants to non-profit organizations needing funds for targeted infrastructure that support this goal.
